The Week Ahead at the General Assembly of the United Nations

Sunday, 9 September
The President of the General Assembly will hold his fourth and final meeting with his Team of External Advisors. The topics for discussion will include a reflection on the 72nd session, an independent report that has been prepared by the External Advisors and challenges ahead.
Monday, 10 September
There will be a public event – organized by the President’s office and the International Peace Institute (IPI) – at 9:30 a.m. at the IPI offices at 777 United Nations Plaza. It will be an interactive discussion with President Lajčák, his team of External Advisors and IPI President Terje Rød-Larsen under the topic: Broader Perspectives on the UN of Today and Tomorrow. Members of the Team will highlight ideas and recommendations that emerged from their discussions with the President throughout his term. And the Team’s independent report will be distributed. It will contain their thoughts on the current state of multilateralism; peace and prevention; the work of the General Assembly; the Security Council; migration; and financing for development.
The General Assembly plenary will meet at 3 p.m. in the General Assembly Hall to consider the following agenda items: 2001-2010 Decade to Roll Back Malaria in Developing Countries, particularly in Africa; New Partnership for Africa’s Development: progress in implementation and international support; and Causes of conflict and the promotion of durable peace and sustainable development in Africa.
The co-facilitators for the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit will hold informal consultations to finalize the Summit’s political declaration, at 3 p.m. in the Trusteeship Council Chamber.
Thursday, 13 September
The President of the General Assembly will hold his end-of-session press conference at 11 a.m. at United Nations Headquarters in room S-237.
