ASSEMBLY ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON “SAMOA PATHWAY” FOR SMALL ISLAND DEVELOPING STATES

  • The General Assembly plenary adopted a resolution by consensus today, concerning modalities and arrangements for the first review of the so-called SAMOA Pathway.
  • The SAMOA Pathway is an international framework that has to do with the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States. It was the outcome of the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States, which was held in September 2014 in Samoa.
  • This high-level review will be held in September 2019 here in New York.

 

THEME SET FOR ASSEMBLY’S NEXT SESSION

  • President Lajčák today circulated a letter to Member States from H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President-elect of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
  • In the letter, she proposes that the theme of the 73rd General Debate be: “Making the United Nations relevant to all people: Global leadership and shared responsibilities for peaceful, equitable and sustainable societies.”
