The President of the 72nd session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, met today with H.E. Mr. Tommy Esang Remengesau Jr., President of the Republic of Palau. They discussed issues related to the work of the 72nd session of the General Assembly, sustainable development, and health. The President of the General Assembly thanked Palau for its strong commitments to multilateralism and said that all goals related to the priorities set for the 72nd session had been achieved: the agreed text of the Global Compact for Migration, the three Sustainable Development Goals events, United Nations reforms, and raising the visibility of conflict prevention and sustaining peace. On sustainable development, he commended Palau for engaging actively on issues related to the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS), such as climate change, oceans, and partnerships. On health, he acknowledged Palau’s commitment to prevent and control non-communicable diseases. The President of the General Assembly also congratulated Palau for agreeing to host the Our Oceans Conference in 2020 and wished the Conference every success.
