United Nations, New York, 11 May 2018 – The President of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, will visit Thailand on 14 May, and Slovakia from 15 to 19 May.

In Bangkok, Thailand, the President will deliver opening remarks to the 74th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

While in Bangkok, the President will meet with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai; representatives of the Asia Pacific Regional Coordination Mechanism, which comprises 34 United Nations regional and subregional entities and affiliated offices; and the United Nations Country Team.  He is also expected to visit the Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture.

In Bratislava, Slovakia, the President will open and participate in the GLOBSEC 2018 Bratislava Forum, a prominent strategic gathering that brings together international Government officials, academics and civil society, including the private sector. Additionally, he will address a panel on “Multilateralism in the ‘Me-First’ World”. He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with H.E. Mr. Ditmir Bushati, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Albania; H.E. Mr. Predrag Bošković, Minister for Defense of Montenegro;  H.E. Mr. Jacek Czaputowicz, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Poland; H.E. M.J. Akbar, Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India; H.E. Mr. Thomas Greminger, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE); H.E. Ms. Fabiola Gianotti, Director-General of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN); General Philip Breedlove, former Supreme Allied Commander Europe of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO); and representatives of Philip Morris International.

The President will travel to Thailand with his Deputy Chef de Cabinet, Ms. Sofia Borges, and his Advisers, Ms. Thanavon Pamaranon and Ms. Katharina Kandt.

In Slovakia, the President will be accompanied by his Chef de Cabinet, Mr. Frantisek Ružička; his Senior Adviser, Ms. Elif Çalışkan; his Speechwriter, Ms. Cianna O’Connell; and Ms. Kandt.

Travel costs will be covered by the Trust Fund of the Office of the President of the General Assembly, with some support on the ground being provided by the Governments of Thailand and Slovakia.

The President will be back in New York on 19 May.
