The Week Ahead at the General Assembly of the United Nations

Monday, 23 April

The President of the General Assembly will address the Forum on Financing for Development, organized by Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), at 10 a.m. in Trusteeship Council Chamber.

 

The President of the General Assembly will convene an interactive dialogue on Harmony with Nature during the commemoration of International Mother Earth Day, at 10:30 a.m. in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber. The programme is available here.

 

The President of the General Assembly will deliver opening remarks at a High-Level Roundtable on Security Sector Reforms and Sustaining Peace, co-hosted by the Slovak Republic and the Republic of South Africa on behalf of the UN Group of Friends of Security Sector Reform, at 3 p.m. in Conference Room 3.

 

The President of the General Assembly will address a high-level side event entitled “The preventive potential of human rights – what does it mean in practice?” co-organized by the co-chairs of the Human Rights / Conflict Prevention caucus at 5 p.m. at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN.

 

Tuesday, 24 April 

The President of the General Assembly will convene a two-day High-Level Meeting on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace, at 10 a.m. in the General Assembly Hall. It will be the largest gathering of world leaders at United Nations Headquarters since the General Debate last September. A media stakeout will be set up on the second floor, outside the main entrance to the General Assembly Hall, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:20 p.m.

 

The President of the General Assembly will convene two Interactive Dialogues in Conference Room 4. The First Interactive Dialogue will be on “Sustainable Financing for Peace” from 3:00 to 4:25 p.m., and the Second Interactive Dialogue will be on “Strengthening the United Nations’ Work on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace in the Field”, from 4:35 to 6 p.m. To learn more about the Interactive Dialogues, click here.

 

The President of the General Assembly will host a High-Level Luncheon on “A New Approach to Peace” at 1:15 p.m. in the Delegates Dining Room on the occasion of the High-Level Meeting on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace (upon invitation only).

 

The President of the General Assembly will deliver remarks at a side event organized by the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the United Nations, entitled “Commemorative Ceremony to mark the Centenary of the End of the First World War” at 6 p.m. at the Delegates Entrance.

 

Wednesday, 25 April

The President of the General Assembly will address a High-Level Breakfast Conversation on Gender and Sustaining Peace co-organized by Bangladesh, Canada, Colombia, Germany and Switzerland at 8.30 a.m. at the Delegates Dining Room.

 

The President of the General Assembly will convene two Interactive Dialogues in Conference Room 4. One, on “Strategic Partnerships with the United Nations in the Field for Peace,” will take place from 10:00 – 11:25 a.m., and another, on a “UN Comprehensive and Integrated Approach to Peace,” will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. To learn more about the Interactive Dialogues, click here.

The President of the General Assembly will address a side event on Post-conflict Peacebuilding and Reconciliation organized by the Permanent Missions of Indonesia and Timor-Leste to the United Nations, at 10 a.m. in Conference Room 5

 

The President of the General Assembly will address the side event, entitled “Pathways for Peace”, organized by the Permanent Missions of Sweden, Kenya, Romania, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Colombia, and the United Kingdom; the World Bank; and the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), from 1:15 – 2:30 p.m., in Conference Room 12.

 

Thursday, 26 April 

The President of the General Assembly will address the opening segment of the Parliamentary Consultation on the UN High-Level Meeting on Tuberculosis at 9:30 a.m..

  

Friday, 27 April

As part of the collaboration between the Office of the President of the General Assembly and Lehigh University, the President will attend presentations by Master of Business Administration students on Sustainable Development Goals 4, 6, 8 and 9, in Conference Room 12, at 11 a.m. (closed meeting).

 

The Co-Chairs of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly will hold the fourth thematic debate on strengthening the accountability, transparency and institutional memory of the Office of the President of the General Assembly, at 10 a.m. in the Trusteeship Council Chamber.
