The President of the 72nd session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, today met with H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. They discussed issues related to the Security Council reform, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), UN reforms, and sustainable development. On the Security Council reform, the President of the General Assembly said he wished to see a credible process and meaningful progress. The President said the unity of the international community on the issue of DPRK is remarkable and unanimous, and that no country could ignore or resist a united international community. He commended Japan’s leadership in areas related to major United Nations priorities, including water, youth, health, and the United Nations budget, especially the peacekeeping budget. He also invited Japan to play an active and visible role and participate in the high-level events to be held during the 72nd session.
