The President of the 72nd session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, met today with H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan. They discussed issues related to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Security Council reform and sustainable development. The President of the General Assembly said there was unity and concerted effort among the international community on the issue of DPRK, and that no country could ignore or resist a united international community. On Security Council reform, the President said he wished to see meaningful progress. He commended Japan’s leadership in areas related to major United Nations priorities, including water, climate, youth and the United Nations budget, especially the peacekeeping budget. He also said that Japan’s progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals was inspiring for other countries.
