Fernando Zelner is a Senior Adviser in the Office of the President of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is responsible for issues related to Sustainable Development Goals Financing, as well as sustainable development and UN financing and management.
Previously, Fernando spent three years at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations, where he covered UN budgets and administration as a delegate in the Fifth Committee. He has also dealt with macroeconomic issues, including financing for development, as well as global health.
Fernando is a political scientist and a career diplomat, having joined the Brazilian Foreign Service in 2007. Before being posted in New York, he served for five years at the Division of Agriculture and Commodities at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brasilia, where he dealt with sanitary and phytosanitary issues, WTO agricultural trade negotiations, as well the international commodity bodies for coffee (ICO), sugar (ISO) and cocoa (ICCO).
Fernando is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, and speaks basic Dutch and Russian
