PRESS RELEASE: President of the UN General Assembly to speak at SIWI World Water Week, Stockholm

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 25 August 2017 — The President of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, will visit Sweden on Monday, 28 August, to deliver remarks during the opening plenary of World Water Week in Stockholm, organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).

Under World Water Week’s theme of “Water and Waste: Reduce and Reuse”, President Thomson will share reflections on The Ocean Conference held at the United Nations in New York last June and will underscore the interconnectedness of SDG 6 on water and sanitation and SDG 14 on the conservation and sustainable use of the Ocean’s resources.

While in Stockholm, President Thomson will also meet with H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Deputy Prime Minister Isabella Lövin, and Minister for the Environment Karolina Skog to discuss matters related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and follow-up on The Ocean Conference.

The President will be accompanied by Ms. Naomi Parekh, Adviser, Communications.

Travel expenses for the President and accompanying officer will be covered by the Office of the President of the General Assembly’s Trust Fund.
