Statement on assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey
UNITED NATIONS, 19 December 2016 — The President of the United Nations General Assembly H.E. Peter Thomson has strongly condemned the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey H.E. Andrey Karlov. The assassination occurred in Ankara, Turkey, today during an art exhibition.
“I am horrified by the incoming news on the assassination of Ambassador Karlov, and unreservedly condemn this terrible act of violence perpetrated against a senior member of the diplomatic corps,” President Thomson said.
“I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Ambassador Karlov’s family and the Government of the Russian Federation in this difficult moment” he added.
