The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, met with the Vice-President of the European Commission for Budget and Human Resources Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, on 22 September 2016. The central theme of discussion was the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.
The President of the General Assembly and the Vice-President of the European Commission stressed the importance of bringing all relevant actors, including the UN, the EU and the World Bank together to advance the 2030 Agenda.
Ms. Georgieva underlined the potential of EU’s External Investment Plan in resource mobilization for sustainable development in developing countries.
President Thomson highlighted the need for fair taxation system and raising public awareness of the Sustainable Development Agenda as key enablers for successful implementation.
The President of the General Assembly and the Vice-President of the European Commission shared the concern over the continued crisis in Syria and emphasized the need to foster and encourage dialogue between all parties involved in the conflict.
