\"The<\/a>On Tuesday, the President of the UN General Assembly attended the congratulatory ceremony for the three winners and nine honorably mentions of the UN Poster for Peace contest. It took place\u00a0in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the first UN General Assembly resolution, which established the goal of eliminating nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction.\u00a0The contest aims to raise awareness of the need for nuclear disarmament and to inspire citizens across the globe to add their voices, and use their artistic talents, to promote a world free of nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

First place goes to Mr. Ivan Ciro Palomino Huamani from Peru who received $3,000 for \u201cSpinning Peace\u201d. The $2,000 second place winner is Ms. Michelle Li from the United States for \u201cPeace in Our Hands\u201d. Third place, with an award of $1,000 recognises Ms. Anjali Chandrashekar for \u201cCutting Barriers through Peace.\u201d From the United States, Ms. Chandrashekar also received an honorable mention for another poster entry entitled, \u201cBreak Free\u201d.<\/p>\n

At the congratulatory ceremony the UN General Assembly President also opened the exhibition of posters in the disarmament section of the UN tour together with the\u00a0UN Secretary General, the High representative for Disarmament Kim Won-soo and UN Messenger of Peace Michael Douglas.<\/p>\n
