Statement by Mogens Lykketoft, the President of the United Nations General Assembly on the recent mass murders in Afghanistan and Germany
New York, 23 July 2016 – I feel the deepest sorrow and anger about the terrible terror attacks and mass murders taking place around the world:
I am shocked by today’s extremely cruel killing of over 80 and injuring of more than 200 people. I send my deepest condolences and compassion to families and friends of those killed and injured and to the people and the Government of Afghanistan; a country, which is still struggling with the very grave consequences of decades of civil war and violent extremism.
Likewise I send my condolences and compassion to the victims and relatives of the mass shooting in Munich yesterday and to the people and the Government of Germany.
