UN General Assembly President travels to Copenhagen

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 17 May 2016 – The President of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft travels to Copenhagen today. He will participate in the annual Women Deliver conference which takes place in Copenhagen from 16 to 19 May 2016. Over 6.000 participants will meet to discuss investing in women and girls.

On Wednesday 18 May, Mr. Lykketoft will speak at several events. The topics include Women and Economy and the Sustainable Development Goals on Gender Equality. The President will also speak at a mini-Folkemøde (Danish public people’s meeting).

On Thursday 19 May, Mr. Lykketoft will meet HRH Crown Princess Mary, a strong advocate for women’s rights and social inclusion, and address several of the panel discussions taking place such as one on Women and Refugees. At the Closing Plenary of the Conference, the President will deliver a statement.

On Friday 20 May, Mr. Lykketoft will participate in a conference organized by the Danish Institute of International Studies on the selection of the next Secretary-General and the future of the United Nations. He will also meet the Danish Foreign Policy Society before he continues his travel to Doha and Istanbul to participate in the World Humanitarian Summit.

On the trip to Copenhagen, Mr. Lykketoft will be accompanied by adviser Emilie Christensen and Special Media Adviser Ulla Oestergaard. Travel and accommodation costs are covered by the Office of the President of the General Assembly’s Trust Fund.
