Meeting with Permanent Representative of Ukraine

The President of the General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, today had a courtesy call with the Permanent Representative of Ukraine, H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Yelchenko, during which they discussed preparations for the upcoming special commemorative meeting of the Assembly in observance of the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe. They also touched upon the process of the selection and appointment of the next Secretary-General.

Ambassador Yelchenko also informed the President about the situation of the Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, underlining the support voiced for her release coming from many countries, and appreciated efforts of the United Nations in that matter.
