UN GA adopted resolution on threat of violent extremism

By unanimously adopting a resolution underscoring that the threat of violent extremism urgently needs to be addressed, the UN General Assembly has signaled its grave concern about by this issue, welcoming the initiative of the Secretary-General to present a plan of action to prevent violent extremism.

In his remarks to the Assembly, the President recognised that many countries across the world today faces this threat, and that – even if it is not a new phenomenon – it is on the rise. The President also underscored that confronting and preventing violent extremism is fundamental to protecting societies and people and that to be truly effective, the approach to prevention must stay faithful to common values and common humanity, thereby securing peace and security in a manner that respects human rights and the rule of law, and advances sustainable development.
