President Kutesa meets with the President of the Security Council

The President of the General Assembly (PGA), H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, met with H.E. Ms. María Cristina Perceval, Permanent Representative of Argentina to the United Nations in New York, in her capacity as the current President of the United Nations Security Council for the month of October 2014.

The President of the Security Council briefed President Kutesa on the Programme of Work of the Security Council for the month of October, including upcoming debates, consultations and meetings.

Both Presidents exchanged views on a number of important regional issues, focusing mainly on the Ebola Outbreak, Peace and Security, international justice and the working methods of the General Assembly and the Security Council.

The two Presidents noted the importance of further strengthening the coordination and interaction between the General Assembly and the Security Council.

The President of the General Assembly holds regular meetings with the Presidents of the Principal Organs of the United Nations, as provided for in the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly, to ensure enhanced cooperation and coordination in their work programmes in accordance with their respective responsibilities under the Charter.

President Kutesa also met today with H.E. Mr. Vitaly Churkin, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations in New York.

They exchanged views on the 69th session’s programme of work. Moreover, they discussed important issues on the agenda of the session, focusing on United Nations reforms, including the reform of the Security Council and the revitalization of the General Assembly.
