Note attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly

H.E. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, President of the General Assembly (PGA), paid tribute today to Ambassador Mårten Grunditz, Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations.

Ambassador Grunditz’s passing last week deeply saddened the United Nations community.

On behalf of all Member States and on his own behalf, the President of the General Assembly expresses his heartfelt condolences to Ambassador Grunditz’s bereaved family and to the people and Government of Sweden.

This is a great loss for Sweden and for the diplomatic corps.

Ambassador Grunditz will be remembered as a remarkable diplomat who leaves a memorable impact on the United Nations community. His strong interest in and tireless efforts on many issues central to the Organization’s work, including development, peacekeeping, humanitarian issues and human rights will leave an indelible legacy.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
