Peacebuilding Fund-sponsored Brown Bag Lunch “Youth as Agents of Peace and Stability in Kyrgyzstan"

Peacebuilding Fund-sponsored Brown Bag Lunch

“Youth as Agents of Peace and Stability in Kyrgyzstan, #JashStan" (2017-2018)

2 November, 12:30-2:00

S-2723, UN Secretariat Building

Please join us this Friday, 2 November, for a lunchtime discussion of results from the first phase of the project, “Youth as Agents of Peace and Stability in Kyrgyzstan" (2017-2018).

Implemented by Search for Common Ground, the project was among the first initiatives by a civil society organization to be directly funded through PBF’s Youth Promotion Initiative. The presentation will be led by Mr. Keneshbek Sainazarov, SFCG’s Kyrgyzstan Country Director, and Ms. Tereza Grünvaldová, Search’s Asia Regional Director.

The presentation will highlight how the initiative promoted resilience within 27 communities prone to violence and extremist rhetoric across Kyrgyzstan through engaging young peacebuilders. It will share effective and innovative mechanisms for engaging the most “unheard” youth through community-based conflict resolution focusing on issues that provoke grievances and marginalization, such as violence in schools, early marriages, and interethnic tensions.

Peacebuilding mechanisms applied in #JashStan, moreover, serve as a feedback mechanism on UNSCR 2250’s application in Kyrgyzstan and provide an opportunity to deliver key challenges, lessons learned and tips that derive from a Toolkit for community and arts-based peacebuilding and Youth conflict mapping exercises.

The presentation will be accompanied with a photo exhibition.

If you are a CSO colleague without a UN grounds pass and would like to attend, please be sure to notify Tammy Smith (smith24@un.org) by COB Thursday, 1 November, so that we may facilitate your entry to the building.
