Learn about the United Nations Office for Partnerships
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development includes, under Sustainable Development Goal 17, a call to revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development, including through multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources toward achievement of the Goals.
The United Nations Office for Partnerships serves as a gateway for partnership building between the private sector, foundations and other non-State actors and the United Nations system in furtherance of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In this role, the Office has four primary functions:
- To serve as the operational interface between the United Nations Foundation and the United Nations system in support of high-impact projects implemented throughout the world by UN system agencies;
- To provide administrative support to the United Nations Democracy Fund;
- To advise, guide and facilitate partnership events and initiatives between the United Nations and non-state actors, such as private sector, foundation and civil society, in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.
- To serve as the Secretariat for the Secretary-General's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocates and the SDG Strategy Hub.

In April 2020, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, supported by the United Nations Office for Partnerships, launched the Women Rise for All initiative as part of the Decade of Action to reach the Sustainable Development Goals – the blueprint for a healthier, more equitable and more peaceful world. The initiative aims to look at how the leadership of influential women is shaping the COVID-19 response and efforts to build back better.
Women Rise for All has grown significantly since its launch. To date, the initiative has engaged over 50 women leaders from different parts of the world to advance the United Nations (UN) Research Roadmap for the COVID-19 recovery.
“Like no other time in recent history, women are on the frontlines of COVID-19. It is time for us to rise as women leaders taking action to conquer the pandemic and come out stronger.” - UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed
For more information about the initiative including the latest video released on 30 November 2020, please see the Women Rise for All webpage.
