Social Innovation Summit: 2014

On May 28-29 2014 the United Nations Office for Partnerships in partnership with Landmark Ventures hosted the bi-annual Social Innovation Summit at JP Morgan Chase and at the United Nations. The Summit has an aim to bring together “Business Innovation and Social Transformation”. The two-day event brought together individuals from across all sectors to create partnerships to further develop technology, philanthropy, investment and business. Our Executive Director of UNOP, Roland Rich, started the second day with opening remarks, in a session led by Icema Gibbs, Director of Social Responsibility for JetBlue Airways. Other featured speakers at the Summit were Charles Best, CEO of DonorsChoose.org, Jessica Alba, Actress and the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Jan Eliasson to name a few.

Our Senior Advisor to the United Nations Office for Partnerships, Annette Richardson, moderated an interactive boardroom panel discussion entitled “Beyond Just Doing Good: The Role of Innovation in UN Partnerships” with panelists including Karen Newman, Senior Consultant to the Business Call to Action (UNDP), Michelle Jean, Co-Founder and CEO of Zesa Raw, Jason Singh, Executive Director of One Sight-Luxottica Group and Zhiyao Ma, Analyst, Innovation Unit for UNICEF. The participants discussed ways to catalyze partnerships in both the private and public sectors to further development goals through different mediums and fields.
