50th Anniversary of AFICS/NY

Wednesday, 09 December 2020 - 1:00pm

19 February 2021

Calling all AFICS/New York members around the world.  Here is a unique opportunity for you to become involved in our 50th anniversary celebration, which will be held on 4 May 2021. We are putting together an anniversary bulletin with stories about people and events that have influenced AFICS/NY over the past 50 years.  If you have a story about life in retirement and some of the interesting things you may be doing that affect the lives of others, or have a story about your involvement with AFICS/NY that you think others would like to hear, do please send them to us. Stories should be no more than one typed-page long,  including  any relevant photographs. The deadline for submission is 5 March 2021. Email your submissions to James Lee at james.lee1330@gmail.com.

We are also putting together our anniversary video and would love to hear from you about what AFICS/NY means to you. This calls for some tech savvy, but it is not over the top.  All you need is a cell phone that can capture and post video.  We want you to answer the question: What does AFICS/NY  mean to you? You have 120 seconds, i.e.,  2 minutes, to tell us who you are, where you worked last at the UN, how long you have been with the organization,  how many years you have been in retirement, what AFICS/NY means to you and what you would like to see it do more of in the future.

The challenge is to get it all in, in under 2 minutes.  The closer you are to 2 minutes the better your chances that we will be able to use your material. Record a video of yourself and send that video to Mary Ferreira at ferreiramary103@gmail.com.

IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, please email Mary and she will be willing to walk you through the process. There is a deadline and it is a firm deadline. You must get your recording to Mary by 16 March 2021.  We will not be able to use any recording arriving after this date.

We look forward to hearing from you.

A huge thank you to each of you who sent in potential slogans and logos. We loved your ideas and creativity and have eventually chosen this logo and slogan which we hope you enjoy.

Thank you to our members Ms. Laura Frischeisen for the design and Mr. Adhiratha Keefe for the slogan.

We know this is not the celebration you may have envisaged but it is the best we can do during this COVID-19 season. So, do please note main celebration date on 4 May 2021. Spread the word wherever you are, tell your friends, put it on your Facebook and Instagram pages and be with us on 4 May 2021.  If you join virtualy, make sure you download Microsoft Teams so that you can be a part of our celebration. As with any party, we will also have music and a toast, so see and be there and look out for that all important Microsoft Teams link, which you will receive from us well in advance to use to join us live online in Microsoft Live Event on 4 May 2021 (same as virtual celebration on 9 December 2020 and our Annual Assembly in June 2020).  All events are available streamed via UN Web TV as well.
