Statement from the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States on the killing of the President of Haiti

We condemn the killing of the President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, and call for those responsible to be brought to justice. We express our condolences to his family and to the people of Haiti.

Haiti has been perennially affected by natural disasters and political instability. One of the world's Least Developed Countries, it is among the few in which poverty was rising even before COVID-19. Especially in these pandemic times, this shock must not be allowed to foment further instability.

The international community must continue to support Haiti's development efforts and ensure that no Haitian gets left behind.
