The HIP Prime HMO plan (underwritten by HIP Health Plan of New York, an EmblemHealth company) follows the concept of total prepaid group practice hospital and medical care, that is, there is no out-of-pocket cost to the staff member for covered services at numerous participating medical groups in the Greater New York area.
IMPORTANT: As of 1 July 2013, the HIP plan is closed to new subscribers (i.e. staff members or retirees).
Subscribers must appeal non-favourable decisions through the insurance carrier before contacting the Insurance Unit.
Details of the plan (description of benefits, restrictions, level of coverage) may be found in the HIP Member Plan Description.
The conversion privilege is part of the United Nations group insurance programme. It allows staff members who cease employment with the United Nations and do not qualify for after-service health insurance benefits to arrange for medical coverage under an individual contract .
The eligibility section of the HQ circular explains in detail the eligibility requirements to enrol in the HIP plan.
