To better address the needs of rural communities in Bhutan and to reduce the disparities between rural and urban areas of the country, the programme improved educational access and sanitation in rural areas; enhanced the knowledge and income generating skills of rural households; and extended micro-finance to those not previously reached through the establishment of Integrated Community Development Centres. The programme benefitted over 80,000 vulnerable people.
