Ashok Dahal is a senior correspondent with Republica National Daily, a leading English-language newspaper in Nepal. He also works as a part-time stringer at the Kathmandu bureau of Agence France Presse (AFP). As a political affairs reporter, Dahal has reported on major events in the country, charting its long peace process, which brought rebelling armed Maoists into mainstream politics, and the historic drafting of the constitution that followed. In his decade-long career in TV, radio and print media, Dahal has covered issues related to Nepal's law-making process, good governance, human rights, transitional justice and gender rights. His investigative stories have exposed conflicts of interest among public officials, highlighting the need to keep lawmakers in close public scrutiny. During the Fellowship, Ashok is interested in covering how world leaders plan to address issues of climate change, which disproportionately impact countries like Nepal, as well as the activities of Nepal's delegation, especially regarding its failure to commence a meaningful transitional justice process at home.
