7 May 2003
Joint e7-UNDESA Workshop on Market-driven
Diffusion of Renewable Energy Technologies
UN Millennium Hotel, New York, USA
As a side-event of the eleventh session of the CSD, the e7, composed of nine
leading electricity companies from G7 nations, and DESA organized a workshop
to consider the preliminary results of the work of the e7 Technology Diffusion
Working Group to assess the barriers to and opportunity for improving the
diffusion of energy technologies for sustainable development in developing
countries. Drawing upon case studies of projects involving the diffusion of
renewable energy technologies to underserved populations, the results included
recommendations to help electricity stakeholders address the barriers
constraining electrification and sustainable development. The workshop was an
opportunity to vet these results with energy experts from developing nations
attending the CSD session and with international organizations involved in
technology diffusion.
