Expert Group Meeting on Renewable Energy Policy

The Expert Group Meeting, which was held in Washington, D.C. from 29-30 September 2005, brought together distinguished renewable energy experts from developing and developed countries to assess renewable energy developments since WSSD, to analyze he status and potentials for international cooperation in promoting renewable energies, and to discuss perspectives and options for a review process and arrangements to assess progress in the implementation of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation with respect to the increased contribution of renewable energy to total energy supply.  The experts reviewed a background report, Increasing Global Renewable Energy Market Share: Recent Trends and Perspectives, prepared for the Beijing International Renewable Energy Conference, held from 7-8 November 2005 in Beijing, China.

The Expert Group Meeting was convened by the Energy and Transport Branch of the Division for Sustainable Development, with the support of the United Nations Foundation and Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Germany.
