Capacity-building workshop on designing forest projects held in Pretoria

This week, the UNFF Secretariat and the South African Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) organised the capacity-building workshop on designing projects on sustainable forest management in South Africa in Pretoria from 8 to 12 April 2019. This workshop was part of the UNFF Global Forest Financing Facilitation Network (GFFFN) activities and followed the request from the Government of South Africa to receive support in mobilizing financing for sustainable forest management. The workshop was attended by 21 participants from DAFF, the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and several NGOs.

The aim of the workshop was to exchange experiences and build capacity in designing project proposals on sustainable forest management. Participants covered a wide range of topics from carrying out stakeholder analysis and participation to formulating logical frameworks that meet the investment criteria of the Green Climate Fund and other major financing mechanisms.
