Investing in infrastructure for an inclusive and sustainable future of the Asia-Pacific LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS

Event Details

Organized by:

ESCAP

Summary:

The objective of this side event is to facilitate the discussion on how to close existing infrastructure gaps and keep up with growing demands for new infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS. ESCAP recently estimated that they need to invest an average of 10.5 per cent of GDP per annum in infrastructure development and maintenance. Such investment far exceeds current levels of infrastructure funding. Thus, the event will focus on the importance of the prioritization and sequencing of infrastructure development. Policymakers in these economies may find the event useful when designing and adapting national financing strategies, just as development partners can use it to re-align their cooperation strategies. This side event will include finance ministers and senior Ministers from the Asia-Pacific region, an expert as well as a private sector and a CSO representative. It will build on the ESCAP’s Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report 2017.
