Description | UNDP/UNSO provides administrative, financial and technical assistance to the
Centre de Suivi Ecologique. Traditionally involved in monitoring vegetation in the Senegalese
Sahel, the Centre has contributed to a greater understanding of ecological process and their
impact on development. The Centre has more recently evolved and adapted its activities in function of needs for sustainable development. | |
Issues addressed | ||
Objectives | Provide data products on the environment in support of planning needs of Government entities, private sector, and civil society organizations, and to provide products on demand to a variety of clients from donor, NGO, and private communities. | |
Results achieved | ||
Lessons learned | The main lesson learned is that development assistance for environmental monitoring projects should not restrict themselves to simply data collection activities, when there is a growing demand for services (policy support) within the country. | |
