| Cleaner Production in China: A Story of Successful Cooperation
| ||
| Location | China | |
| Responsible Organization(s) | National Protection Agency of China, China National Cleaner Production Centre, The World bank, UNEP/IEO. | |
| Description | The project consists of Clener Production case studies, policy study and dissemination. | |
| Issues addressed | Build local sustainable capacity for cleaner production through case studies and policy implementation. | |
| Objectives | Introduce the cleaner production approach to 3000 companies over the next five years and especially to the top 100 polluters in China. | |
| Results achieved | 690 no- or low-investment cleaner production options were identified in 29 cleaner production assessments carried out. The recommendations from the policy studies will provide a basis for a consistent and practical cleaner production policy. | |
| Lessons learned | The success of the project has been mainly due to: manuals in Chinese, early emphasis on in plant training, focus on cleaner production options which were simple to implement; involvement of all employees; combination of practical work and theoretical studies; parallel case studies with policy development. | |
| Financing | The World Bank. | |
