3. Mandate role of above mechanism/council:
to promote and coordinate the implementation of sustainable development in accordance with Agenda 21. The Committee for Environmental Coordination, a statutory body, established in accordance with Article 12 of the Environmental Conservation Act, is the most important coordinating structure. Its functions include: coordinating actions which are taken by departments and which may have material influence on the protection and utilization of the environment; promoting cooperation between such departments; drawing up reports; advising departments which are concerned with matters affecting the environment with a view to pursuing common objectives in respect of the protection and utilization of the environment; investigating the state of the environment biennially in the manner it deems fit, and reporting to the Minister thereon.
