                                  Annotations

1.   Adoption of the agenda and other organizational matters

     The provisional agenda and documentation for the present session of the
Committee were approved by the Economic and Social Council in its decision
1993/331.

     In its decision 1995/307, the Council authorized the Committee on
Non-Governmental Organizations to hold a resumed session for a period of one
week in January 1996 to complete the work of its 1995 session.

2.   Applications for consultative status received from non-governmental
     organizations

     At its 579th meeting, on 23 June 1995, the Committee decided to defer
consideration of the following applications for consultative status to its
resumed session:

     International Energy Foundation (IEF)

     ISIS International (Chile)

     ISIS International Women's Information and Communication Service

     New applications for consultative status:  memorandum by the Secretary-
     General (E/C.2/1995/R.2/Add.31, pp. 77-84, Add.28, pp. 17-33, and
     Add.31, pp. 102-113, respectively)

3.   Review of quadrennial reports submitted by non-governmental
     organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social
     Council, categories I and II

     In accordance with arrangements approved by the Council for consultation
with non-governmental organizations (Council resolution 1296 (XLIV),
para. 40 (b)), such organizations are required to submit, every fourth year, a
report on their activities in support of the work of the United Nations.  At
its 1981 session, the Committee decided that such reports should be limited to
two pages.  After examining the reports, the Committee may recommend to the
Council any reclassification in the status of the organizations concerned that
it deems appropriate.

     Quadrennial reports for the period 1990-1993 submitted by
     non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic
     and Social Council, categories I and II:  reports submitted through the
     Secretary-General pursuant to Economic and Social Council resolution
     1296 (XLIV) of 23 May 1968 (E/C.2/1995/2 and addenda). 1/

     Follow-up to decisions taken by the Committee on Non-Governmental
     Organizations at its 1993 session:  reports submitted through the
     Secretary-General pursuant to Economic and Social Council resolution
     1296 (XLIV) of 23 May 1968 (E/C.2/1995/3 and addenda).

4.   Provisional agenda and documentation for the session of the Committee to
     be held in 1996

     In its resolution 1894 (LVII) of 1 August 1974, the Economic and Social
Council requested the Secretary-General to submit at each session of a
subsidiary body of the Council a draft provisional agenda for its following
session, together with information relating to documentation.

     In its decision 1995/304, the Council decided that, starting in 1996,
the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations should meet annually.

5.   Adoption of the report of the Committee

     The Committee is required to adopt its report to the Economic and Social
Council.


                                     Notes

     1/  At its 1995 session, the Committee took note of the reports of the
following non-governmental organizations:

     International League for the Rights and Liberation of Peoples (see
     E/C.2/1995/2/Add.2)

     Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Council of North and South America (see
     E/C.2/1995/2/Add.5)

     International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (see
     E/C.2/1995/2/Add.10).
