Czech Republic: Support to NEPAD

(period 2001- 2003)

Support to African Countries since NEPAD was adopted in 2001

Since NEPAD was adopted in 2001, the Czech government’s step by step increase in   support to LDCs was in accordance with the Concept Paper on the Czech Foreign Development Aid for the

period 2002-2007.

In January 2002, the government discussed the Concept Paper on the Czech Foreign Development Aid for the period 2002-2007, the first of such conceptual documents submitted to the government since the "Principles for Providing Foreign Aid" that marked the beginning of our development aid programme in 1995. The Concept Paper has declared poverty reduction (in particular the Millennium Development Goals - MDGs) as the primary goal of the Czech Republic's development co-operation.

Support for NEPAD Priorities

The government provided support in Water and Sanitation.

Approximate financial assistance to African countries since 2001

Regarding Water and Sanitation, the Czech Republic allocated 6,6% of its ODA in 2002. In 2003, the Czech Republic further increased its support to 10,65% of ODA in 2003. In absolute figures it is nearly by the two times increase (in Czech Crowns).

Concerning the amounts to Sub-Saharan Africa, the Czech Republic allocated 29,3 mil. CZK in 2001 and 2002 in total. For the single year 2003, the amount of ODA for the region hitherto is 26,830 mil. CZK.

Support for sub-regional and regional programmes of NEPAD

Concerning sub-regional/regional programmes, the Czech ODA is currently project oriented. In future, programme orientation is expected according to the Concept Paper on the Czech Foreign Development Aid for the period 2002-2007.
