The impact of COVID-19 has re-shaped urban life around the world. Local communities have played a key role in contributing to keeping people safe and maintaining some economic activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. UN-Habitat’s latest World Cities Report reinforces the benefits of cities that engage all stakeholders, including local communities to foster sustainable cities. 31 October was designated as World Cities Day to address challenges of urbanization and contribute to sustainable urban development around the world. Collectively, we can truly foster sustainable cities for all.

Local and regional governments shared their experiences, initiatives, and actions to support their communities facing the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on specific public services. The Live Learning Series, a UN-Habitat collaboration, addressed the housing crisis, and the measures that contribute towards successful #StayAtHome policies. Adequate housing is a matter of life and death at this moment and in the future. Without adequate housing, social distancing and hygiene are simply impossible.
