Establishing a culture of peace and sustainable development are at the heart of UNESCO’s mandate. Training and research in sustainable development are among the priorities, as well as human rights education, skills for peaceful relations, good governance, Holocaust remembrance, the prevention of conflict and peace building.
The #KindnessMatters campaign was launched on the International Day of Non-Violence in 2018 and has thus 7300 people from 120 countries have shared their acts of kindness! As the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic continues to challenge the way we work, travel and socialise, let us not forget to #BeKind and recognise that this is a call for humanity to unite.
International days and weeks are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. We also mark other UN observances.
