The item entitled “Observer status for the International Organization of Employers in the General Assembly” was included in the agenda of the seventy-fourth session of the Assembly at the request of France, Germany and Turkey (A/74/291). The Assembly has had the item on its agenda annually since the seventy-fourth session (decisions 74/528 and 75/534).

At its seventy-fifth session, the Assembly decided to defer a decision on the item to its seventy-sixth session (decision 75/534).

Consideration at the seventy-sixth session

The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 28th meeting, on 10 November 2021 (see A/C.6/76/SR.28). For its consideration of the item, the Committee had before it a letter dated 16 August 2019 from the Chargés d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Missions of France, Germany and Turkey to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General (A/74/291).

Action taken by the Sixth Committee

At the 28th meeting, on 10 November, the representative of Germany requested, on behalf of the sponsors, that the Committee defer a decision on the request for observer status for the International Organization of Employers in the General Assembly until the seventy-seventh session of the Assembly.

At the same meeting, the Committee adopted, without a vote, a draft decision under which the General Assembly would decide to defer a decision on the request for observer status for the International Organization of Employers in the General Assembly to the seventy-seventh session of the Assembly.

Subsequent action taken by the General Assembly

This agenda item will be considered at the seventy-seventh session (2022).
