President of the General Assembly meets with Prime Minister of Mongolia


On the margins of the 2011 UN Day Concert, being organised today in the General Assembly Hall by the Government and People of Mongolia, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, held talks with the Prime Minister of Mongolia, H.E. Mr. Batbold Sukhbaatar.

President Al-Nasser congratulated Prime Minister Sukhbaatar on Mongolia’s celebration of the country’s 50th anniversary of joining the United Nations. They discussed this year’s UN Day Concert, which is dedicated to celebrating Cultural Diversity.

They exchanged views on Mongolia’s focus on sustainable development and inclusive growth. They also discussed the launch of the International Year of Cooperatives, on Monday 31st October – an event co-organised by Mongolia with the scheduled participation of Mr. Al-Nasser.

The President of the General Assembly reiterated his commitment to Sustainable Development and Global Prosperity, a subject he has identified as one of the key areas of attention for the 66th Session of the General Assembly.

 

President Al-Nasser meets with Head of UN-Habitat



The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, met with Dr. Joan Clos, the Executive Director of the UN Human Settlements Programme, (UN-Habitat).

They exchanged views on proposals to convene a Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), in the year 2016.

Dr. Clos briefed President Al-Nasser about UN-Habitat’s programme of action and its current focus on the urbanisation of cities for the 21st Century. He stressed the need for cities to be seen not as the problem but as the solution to global population growth.

The President of the General Assembly reiterated his deep commitment to supporting Member States as they tackle major issues of sustainable development of cities, a concern that is in line with “Sustainable Development and Global Prosperity”, one of the priorities identified by President Al-Nasser for the 66th Session of the General Assembly.

 

President of the General Assembly meets with President of the International Criminal Court



The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, held talks with Mr. Sang Hyun-Song, President of the International Criminal Court,(ICC). They discussed international support for the ICC and its cooperation with the UN system. Their talks also touched on the relevance of the Court’s work for global efforts to protect human rights and promote the rule of law.
