In this opinion piece by Agri Pulse, youth, and Agriculture Extension Specialist Janya Green highlights the inclusive process youth like her played in the Summit, and the importance of the work needed at the local and country levels for sustainable food systems.

One of the things I appreciate most about the UNFSS is the emphasis on providing inclusive opportunities for all voices to be heard. Whether it’s through the Action Tracks, the Dialogues, the Group of Friends, or other channels, I’ve been so proud to be a part of a group that is committed to hearing from diverse voices. The UNFSS has done an incredible job of creating space for everyone.”– Janya Green

The Food Systems Summit has been an opportunity for youth to learn and increase awareness on food insecurity and nutrition: “The UNFSS has been an opportunity for me to amplify the work I started in 4-H and to grow a more global perspective for the challenges of food insecurity and the food system around the world,” says Janya.

The UN Food Systems Summit served as a historic opportunity to empower all people to leverage the power of food systems to drive our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and get us back on track to achieve all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
