DGACM Day celebrates International Year of Languages
UN staff members, their families and friends gathered at the East Meadow in Central Park in New York City on 4 October 2008 to take part in DGACM Day, the first informal outdoor event organized by the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management of the United Nations.
The event, organized in celebration of the International Year of Languages, was an occasion for staff members to socialize with one another outside of the UN campus. Under-Secretary-General Shaaban Muhammad Shaaban of DGACM said the event showed that people from different cultures can come together to celebrate “a universal culture - that is the culture of peace.”
A four minute radio piece was produced, which highlights the event and contains music and interviews with participants.
