THEMATIC DEBATE
The 2010 thematic debate will focus on “Current global and national trends and challenges and their impact on gender equality and empowerment of women”. The Secretary-General’s Report on the theme will serve as background documentation for the discussion.
As part of the thematic debate, there will be a Special Policy Dialogue on “The role of Women in Countries in Special Situations”, on 30 June 2010, (10:00 am - 1:00 pm). The Dialogue will address the specific roles and challenges for women in LDCs, LLDCs, SIDSs as well as in post-conflict and post-crisis countries, in three different policy areas: 1. Governance – women’s participation in decision-making and planning; 2. Economic development – women’s economic empowerment; and 3. Social development – women’s social empowerment.
