Inception workshop

The inception workshop on “Strengthening Macroeconomic and Social Policy Coherence through Integrated Macro-Micro Modelling” was successfully conducted by DPAD, in close collaboration with UNDP’s Office in Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Economy and Antitrust Policy (MEAP), on 18-19 April, 2012, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The activities were attended by a group of approximately 20 participants, most of them representing different institutions of Kyrgyzstan’s Government.  The workshop’s sessions were led by the DPAD staff members and chaired by a representative from the MEAP.

Among other things, the workshop and meetings with Government officials served to present and discuss the key policy questions to be addressed through the capacity building activities. Participants agreed that answering questions related to impact of unfavourable shocks on human development, MDG financing strategies, trade policies and remittances would be relevant to better inform policymaking in Kyrgyzstan. 

In addition, during the workshop DPAD:

• Explained and confirmed agreement on the institutional arrangements under which capacity building activities will be undertaken.
• Described the integrated macro and micro modelling framework.
• Presented results of recently completed projects on MDG financing strategies and real-time simulation results as an introduction to the application of the modelling framework.
• Took stock of data availability and agree on future data collection.
• Agreed on a timeline.
