The UN Postal Administration (UNPA) in the Department of Operational Support will issue a special event stamp mini sheet in the denominations of $1.30, CHF 2,00 and € 1,80 to commemorate the UN Biodiversity Conference.

The first part of the conference will take place virtually from 11 to 15 October 2021, and the second part reconvenes in person from 25 April to 8 May 2022 in Kunming, China.

The conference was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biological diversity encompasses more than plants, animals, fungi, micro-organisms and their ecosystems. It is about people and our need for food security, medicines, fresh air, water, shelter and a clean, healthy environment to live in.

Despite on-going efforts, biodiversity is deteriorating worldwide. The conference will gather governments from around the world to agree on a new set of biodiversity goals for the next decade through the Convention on Biological Diversity.

This post-2020 global biodiversity framework will provide an ambitious implementation plan to to improve society’s relationship with biodiversity, and to ensure that by 2050 the shared vision of living in harmony with nature is fulfilled.

The stamp sheet incorporates ants as well as a coral fish, tiger, snake, orchid, beetle, crane bird, salamander, turtle, volcanic coral and fossils. The sheets are consecutively numbered, as each one is unique, and they were designed by Sergio Baradat (United Nations).

To purchase these stamps, as well as other UNPA products, go to unstamps.org or visit the UNPA stamp shops in New York, Geneva and Vienna, where the stamps can be used for mailing.  Follow UNPA on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.
