UN Special Adviser on Africa calls on the President-Elect of the UN General Assembly’s 70th Session, 20 August, 2015

The Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa, Mr. Maged Abdelaziz, paid a courtesy visit  to  the newly elected President of the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA-elect), H. E. Mr. Mogens Lykketoft (Denmark), on 20 August 2015.

The PGA-elect, who will assume office in September 2015, discussed with the Special Adviser his priorities for the General Assembly during his Presidency under the theme “The UN at 70 – A New Commitment to Action”. They discussed the PGA-elect’s intention to specifically focus on sustainable development, peace and security and human rights during his tenure, noting that these issues are strongly aligned with the aspirations and priorities of the African Union’s transformative Agenda 2063 and its First 10-Year Implementation Plan, and with  the “African Year of Human Rights with Particular Focus on the Rights of Women” as well.

The Special Adviser commended the PGA-elect for his desire to put the ambitious Addis Ababa Action Agenda and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into action, and promised his Office’s full support.
