Dear all,

As February has come to a close, we have seen significant progress since the beginning of the year. There have been no confirmed cases in the last two weeks and only two in the last 21 days. In May when the crisis was at its peak there were over 120 cases per week. Today the last confirmed case currently under treatment in one ETC will be returning home. All other ETCs have no confirmed cases. The number of contacts of confirmed cases being monitored has declined from a peak of over 20,000 per day to under 250 today.

Fighting Ebola in a Congolese War Zone

In eastern Congo, in a region already devastated by a quarter century of war, an Ebola outbreak has spiraled into the second-largest epidemic on record. The virus has killed more than 2,200 people since August 2018.

Nearly 60 percent of the cases recorded in Congo by the World Health Organization (WHO) have proven deadly.

‘Air bridge’ vaccination operation begins for Ebola-hit communities in DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has seen an increase in the number of reported cases of the deadly haemorrhagic virus Ebola linked to ongoing violence by armed groups targeting remote communities, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.

According to the UN agency’s latest outbreak update, 27 new cases were identified last week in the east of the country – three times the average number of infections in the past 21 days.

Violence in DR Congo Ebola hotspot leaves people ‘caught in crossfire’

Attacks on communities in an Ebola outbreak hotspot in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have sparked a humanitarian crisis and threatened aid distribution, the UN said on Friday, amid reports of serious civil unrest.

Tensions in eastern Beni territory in DRC’s North Kivu province have been rising since the launch of a Government-led security operation against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) on 30 October, UN refugee agency (UNHCR) spokesperson Charlie Yaxley told journalists in Geneva.
