Registration for annual decolonization events

Annual Regional Seminar - May

Due to the situation related to COVID-19, the Special Committee on Decolonization decided on 18 March to postpone to a later date to be announced in due course, its regional seminar that was scheduled to be held from 5-7 May 2020 in Bali, Indonesia.

Individuals or civil society organizations wishing to participate at their own expense in the annual three-day regional seminar of the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) regarding the Non-Self-Governing Territories inscribed under the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (American Samoa, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands (Malvinas)*, French Polynesia, Gibraltar, Guam, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Pitcairn, Saint Helena, Tokelau, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands and Western Sahara), usually held in the second half of May, should submit in good time a written request to the Chair of the C-24 via the Office of the Special Committee Secretary (soomroi@un.org).

 

C-24 substantive session - June

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the C-24 adopted its 2020 annual report on 5 August 2020 through silence procedure, in lieu of holding its substantive session. For further details, please refer to the 2020 session page.

 

Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) - October

The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) will hold its first meeting on Thursday, 3 October 2019, at 10:00 in Conference Room 4. The proposed programme of work and timetable of the Committee is contained in document A/73/533. The Committee will begin its consideration of the cluster of items on decolonization on Monday, 7 October 2019, at 15:00 in Conference Room 4.

Individuals or civil society organizations wishing to address at their own expense the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) of the General Assembly in October as petitioners regarding the Non-Self-Governing Territories inscribed under the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (American Samoa, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands (Malvinas)*, French Polynesia, Gibraltar, Guam, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Pitcairn, Saint Helena, Tokelau, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands and Western Sahara) should submit an online form.

Requests will be accepted from Friday, 23 August 2019 (09:00, New York time), until Tuesday, 24 September 2019 (17:00, New York time).
