Haya Rashed Al Khalifa
Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa is the President
of the sixty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly.
She is also currently the Legal Advisor to the Royal Court in
the Kingdom of Bahrain and founder of the nationís leading Haya
Rashed Al Khalifa Law firm.
Ms. Al Khalifaís diplomatic, career coupled with her legal background, earned her the distinction of becoming the representative of the Kingdom at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Court of Arbitration in Paris since 2005. From 2000 to 2004, she served as Bahrainís Ambassador in France, as non-resident Ambassador to Belgium, Switzerland and Spain, and as permanent delegate to UNESCO.
Ms. Al Khalifa is one of the first two women to practice law in Bahrain. Her legal career spans three decades, in the course of which she has been Attorney at Law and Legal Consultant in litigation and arbitration for Bahraini and international clients, and an arbitrator in international arbitration. She has been closely associated with many leading legal organizations throughout the world, including the International Bar Association. Throughout her career, she has been a champion of womenís rights in her society and in the courts.
Ms. Al Khalifa earned her LLB from the University of Kuwait and Diplomas in Comparative Law and Civil Private Law from Egypt. Ms. Al Khalifa has presented numerous papers at conferences across the USA, Europe and Asia, on diplomacy, international arbitration, and dispute resolution and on the status of women in the Middle East.
