Established in 2011, ODA’s Office in Vienna facilitates closer cooperation with Vienna based offices and organizations, ensuring effective interaction across all areas of disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation. Its principal partners in this regard are the United Nations Office at Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, as well as with other relevant regional intergovernmental organizations, such as the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The Vienna Office also works closely with related international disarmament and civil-society organizations, and the academic community on disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control issues.

The Vienna Office also organizes and promotes educational disarmament events and training workshops. The office has developed an online training course on disarmament and non-proliferation, with the aim of providing participants with first-hand knowledge from major international organizations and practitioners. The Vienna Office provided a Scholarship for Peace to 140 young professional women from 77 countries of the Global South. The scholarship is an opportunity to receive disarmament and non-proliferation training through partner organizations such as the University for Peace (UPEACE). The scholarship was designed to promote full and equal participation of women in disarmament and non-proliferation efforts, at both grassroots and policy-making levels.

The Vienna Office also assists on a wider range of disarmament related issues, including support for the implementation of the United Nations Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (UNPoA), and cooperation with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on the implementation of the UN Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition (Firearms Protocol).
