Supporting and promoting African and global ATT implementation

Goal: ATT implementation by African States and the functioning of the Treaty’s global institutions and mechanisms.

Activities and Outputs:

 SaferWorld conducted two workshops and a meeting to promote the ATT with ECOWAS and RECSA:

  • RECSA ATT National Assessment workshop was held in Arusha, Tanzania on 18 April 2016, in co-operation with the RECSA Secretariat, as part of a week-long series of RECSA activities culminating in a meeting of the RECSA Ministerial Council. The meeting considered key elements of the ATT, priorities and prospects for CSP2, implementation challenges for RECSA states, and lessons learned from implementation support to date and prospects for the future.

 

  • ECOWAS ATT National Assessment workshop took place in November 2015, a report was disseminated to the participants. The workshop was attended by participants from ECOWAS states, the ECOWAS Commission, international organizations, a representative of the EU ATT Outreach programme, and civil society.

 

  • An Expert Group meeting for an informal discussion on specific issues regarding the implementation of the ATT was held. The Expert Group paper on  innocent passage, brokering and essential elements of a control system was disseminated at the meeting.
